[eDebate] Advice about my thesis

As I am finishing up my thesis regarding the connection between forensics experience and standardized test scores, my cooperating professor has asked a question I can't answer.  Within the area of communication research, is there a level of significance that seems to be standard in order to make research legit?  Of the articles I have accumulated that are essential to this question, about half use 0.05 and about half use 0.10.  Any recommendations?
