International Talk Like a Pirate Day is this Wednesday, September 19. And former Emory debater George Choundas has published a great book just in time: The Pirate Primer: Mastering the Language of Swashbucklers and Rogues.

Already in its second printing, the Pirate Primer is the world's only complete guide to the pirate language. The 469-page tome draws on 75 different sources-history, film, and fiction-for the first comprehensive treatment ever of the vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar of 17th and 18th-century English speaking pirates.

The author is donating 25% of his proceeds from the Pirate Primer to the National Debate Project (led by fans of pirates named George: Emory's Melissa Wade and Georgia State's Carol Winkler). As you know, the NDP does great work in developing and supporting urban debate programs around the country.

You can pick up a copy of the Pirate Primer at Amazon.com or anywhere books are sold. And tell friends and family! (Or doublefry me gizzard in hell-fire else.)
