Job Description:
The A. Craig Baird Debate Forum at the University of Iowa announces a
Project Assistant position for 2007-2008.
The successful candidate will serve as Assistant Debate Coach and
Administrative Assistant for the University’s debate program. The
Baird Debate Forum has a successful history of competitive
intercollegiate policy and public debating for over 100 years. The
Forum has faculty, staff, and numerous graduate student assistants
associated with the program. The Project Assistant would be an
integral part of the Baird Forum.
The responsibilities of the position include:
Assisting the Coordinator of Forensics and the Director of Debate
regarding departmental activities, including the administration of
the intercollegiate debating team, planning of high school outreach
programs, and coordination of international debates.
Performing coaching functions including directing research, arranging
travel, coordinating team meetings, conducting practice sessions,
supervising team members’ academic performance, and traveling to and
judging at intercollegiate debate tournaments.
Assisting in departmental budget preparation and control.
Responsibility for University workflow related functions (such as
travel reimbursements, procurement card reconciliation, cash
handling, and financial electronic transaction routings).
Maintaining an effective working relationship with faculty, staff,
students, and the public.
Bachelor of Arts or equivalent degree is required. Two years of
intercollegiate policy debate experience or two years of high school
or college policy debate coaching experience are required. The
successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license.
Salary will be $26,921 for the period ending July 31, 2008.
