The Department of Communication Studies at Liberty University is now offering an MA in Communication Studies. The program is
in its fourth year. Graduate Assistantships to work with the Liberty University Debate Team are available. Information on the program is below.

Statement of Nature and Purpose
The Master of Arts in Communication Studies is a 36- hour graduate level degree that invites students to study and practice context-specific communication competencies, communication theory, and research that will enhance their individual communication abilities for participation in leadership roles in media, ministry, business and education. The goal is to develop communication knowledge and expertise within the Christian worldview essential for functioning in a variety of communication contexts. Students will study both the interpretive and scientific approaches in the field and receive training in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Program Requirements (36 hours)
Area 1: Contextual Communication Studies
(12 hours)
Area 2: Communication Strategies (12 hours)
Area 3: Research (6 hours)
Area 4: Electives (6 hours)
Projected Number of Resident Students
1st year enrollment 15 -25 students
2nd year enrollment - total of 30 - 45 students
Primary Target Audience
The graduate program will target students who hold the B.S. degree in communications or related discipline who desire to complete a master's level program in Communication Studies.
Delivery
The M.A. in Communication Studies will be offered as a residential on-campus program upon initiation and will consider on-line course offerings as the program grows in the future.
