Rank:         Lecturer and Interim Director of Forensics                       Salary: Depends on

Qualifications:  Master’s degree required prior to the beginning of the Fall 2006 semester (Ph.D. 
preferred).  Previous experience directing a forensics program and working with culturally diverse 
students preferred; prior teaching experience at the university level preferred; demonstrated 
commitment to excellence in teaching required.

  

CSUN is a Learning Centered University. The successful candidate will be expected to join faculty 
and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the assessment of learning outcomes, and to 
multiple pathways that enable students to graduate.

  

At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization 
from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.

  

Evidence of degree(s) required at time of hire.

  

Responsibilities:  Direct a forensics program that incorporates both intercollegiate debate and 
individual events competition.  Supervise several graduate assistant coaches. Teach basic public 
speaking, argumentation, or upper division courses in the department curriculum.  Possibility of 
teaching graduate seminars (candidates with earned doctorates).  Develop collaborative programs 
linking the campus, the surrounding community, and CSUN forensics and identify funding support for 
these programs.

  

Application Deadline:  One year appointment with the possibility of renewal.  Applicants must 
submit a cover letter addressing qualifications, curriculum vitae, three letters of 
recommendation, transcripts from institution awarding highest degree, and evidence of teaching 
effectiveness.  Review of completed files begins April 15, 2006 (with preference given to files 
received by this date) and continues until the position is filled.  Individuals from racial and

The Communication Studies Department consists of 13 tenured and tenure track faculty and a number 
of part-time faculty and staff, all serving approximately 600 majors.  The Department offers both
