I would like to respond to Mr. Elliot's comments! First of all, get your
facts straight. No one in the tab room at LSU Shreveport competed in Public
Debate. I have not a clue where you came up with this idea.
Second, open participation by ALL is a fundamental principle of the IPDA.
Yes, that includes coaches. However, if it will cool your jets a little, Only
ONCE in the history of the organization has a coach won a tournament. Scary,
huh!?! Students can and do win! Get involved with the organization a little
longer than one impromptu entry and maybe you'll learn more about it. We
would love to have you, but if you don't like it, you don't have to be a
member.
Finally, Scott, I've known you for a few years now, and I'm really
disappointed in your language choice and attitude. If you have a problem with
other coaches or the organization, come ask us and do a little research first.
I mean, geez you were a debater when it involved research. The least you
could do is investigate before you shoot your mouth off and condemn people
over an entire list serve. Alan Cirlin is one of the finest individuals I've
met and will always have my deepest respect. We are coaches and as such, I
feel it is important to lead as examples. This uneducated and abusive
outburst is a poor representation of what it SHOULD mean to be a teacher.
Alan Cirlin is a credit to education and I'm proud to know him.
